Prof. Onyango-Ouma has been appointed the Director of Institute of Anthropology, Gender and African Studies.
He holds a PhD degree in medical anthropology.

Prof. Wandibba donated several books to the Institute’s library.
The Institute of Anthropology, Gender and African Studies held a meeting with UNFPA
on students selection for internship after the completion of the GBVIE course.
The Institute of Anthropology, Gender and African Studies (UoN) in conjunction with UNFPA,
UNHCR and UNICEF conducted a 2 week certificate course on Gender Based Violence
in Emergencies (GBViE). The course started on 23rd September 2019 and ended on
4th October 2019.
The Institute of Anthropology, Gender and African studies held a dinner party for
Fourth Year B.A Anthropology students on 17th May 2019 at Tintin Restaurant.
Alumni of the Institute and invited guests addressed the students.
Prof. Salome Bukachi attended a three-day global conference on gender equality and wellbeing
of women. It was held in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Over 6,000 delegates
including world leaders attended the conference whose focus was exploring lasting solutions
to challenges faced by women. From keynotes to social enterprise pitches, workshops to film
festivals, there were countless opportunities to engage, gather inspiration, and build a more
gender equal world.
The University of Nairobi convened a meeting of stakeholders to spearhead the rebirth of Nairobi city through the establishment of a world class museum of art that would eventually lead to the creation of culture and creative art zone for the city residents and visitors.
European Union Commission official Ivan Ginga made a presentation to IAGAS students
on possible funding opportunities for graduate studies and fellowship.

The Department of literature lead by the Chair Dr. Masumi Odari, Soka University Students and the UoN Students from the Department of Literature visited Raha Centre Boys Community Services, for volunteer missions and the word of encouragement.
