Overview
UNFPA and The Gender-Based Area of Responsibility (GBV AoR) have partnered with the University of Nairobi Institute of Anthropology, Gender and African Studies in Kenya to offer a Post Graduate Diploma in Gender-Based Violence in Emergencies (GBViE). The goal of the programme is to equip learners with conceptual, analytical and practical skills required to prevent and respond to Gender Based Violence in emergency situations.
Who is this course for?
The post-graduate diploma in GBViE is designed for professionals working in or aspiring to work in the field of GBV in crisis situations, such as those brought on by armed conflict or natural disasters.
What are the minimum entry requirements?
Candidates with a bachelor’s degree or an advanced degree in social sciences or any other relevant discipline.
How long is the course?
The course duration is one academic year.
What are the expected Learning Outcomes?
The course is centered on feminist and gender equality principles, rights-based and survivor-based approaches, and the Interagency Minimum Standards for GBViE work across research, policy-making, programme design and implementation.
By the end the course, learners will be able to:
- Coordinate GBV interventions in emergencies
- Mitigate risks for GBV in emergency situations
- Offer psychosocial support to survivors
- Provide health care interventions to GBV survivors
- Offer and or link GBV survivors to legal support
- Provide livelihood support and empowerment to individuals and communities
- Conduct ethical research in the context of GBViE
What will be the mode of study?
The programme will be fully online and shall be delivered in an innovative model that combines interactive virtual lectures, self-directed learning through online course modules, and online course assignments and evaluation.
