Prof Isaac K. Nyamongo

At its biennial meeting held in Taipei, Taiwan between 1st and 2nd October 2014, the World Council of Anthropological Associations (WCAA) delegates elected Prof. Isaac K. Nyamongo to the Governing Council of WCAA. The election of Prof Nyamongo together with Prof. Vesna Vicnic-Neskovic (Serbia), Prof. Chandana Mathur (Ireland), Prof. Carmen Rial (Brazil), Prof. Soumendra Patnaik (India) was subsequently ratified by member associations around the World, a process which culminated in the declaration of the results during the 4th week of October 2014. Prof. David Shankland of the Royal Anthropological Institute was appointed the Treasurer. The new officials will join Prof. Gordon Mathews (Hong Kong) and Prof. Lorne Holyoak (Canada).  WCAA brings together Anthropological Associations from across the. Prof. Nyamongo also serves on the International Union of Anthropological and Ethnological Sciences as the Co-Chair of the Committee on Documentation.


A distinguished career Anthropologist, Prof. Nyamongo is a Professor of Anthropology attached to the Institute of Anthropology, Gender and African Studies, University of Nairobi. He has held numerous research grants including from Wenner Gren Foundation, World Health Organization (WHO), European Union (EU), and Toyota Foundation among others.
